This first play by Ionesco holds the world record for the highest number of uninterrupted performances in the same venue.
It has been performed since 1957 at the Théâtre de la Huchette. By the end of 2021, it had surpassed 21,000 performances and attracted over three million spectators.
The Bald Soprano invites us into the home of the Smiths, a traditional London family, who are hosting the Martins. The fire chief also pays them a visit.
This play is a true autopsy of contemporary society, set to music through the use of absurd dialogue in a highly entertaining situation.
